(Electronic Text or Tape)

Students must be registered with the University of Missouri and the Office of Disability Services and provide appropriate documentation to receive this accommodation. Advance notice is essential to allow adequate time to prepare texts or other material in an alternate format or to request from Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic.  A two-week notice will be necessary, depending upon the materials required; students must consult with the Office of Disability Services about the specific time frame.  The next semester’s schedule should be provided as soon as it is available so text accommodations may be started to allow for the material to be available in a timely manner.

The reading accommodation may be met by:

Electronic Text

Students may access the electronic texts via a password-protected website and use text to speech software that is provided to the students at no charge. Electronic texts will only be available during the semester in which the book is used.  If access to the material is needed past the end of the semester, students are to notify the Office of Disability Services.  If the web option is not available to the student, a CD may be burned for the student to use on a computer.

Audiocassette tapes

If available, CDs are to be used on the student’s computer or through a CD player loaned to the student for the semester in which the book is used.

Other

Alternate formats other than mentioned above may be provided depending on the student’s disability and other considerations.  These may include Brailled material or enlarged material.

The student must own a physical copy of the text that is provided in an alternate format.  The student may not revise, convert, disassemble, modify, sell, license, rent, loan or otherwise share the electronic texts, tapes or other equipment to any other person.  The student may be asked to provide a receipt or proof of purchase of the text.

The student is responsible for notifying the Office of Disability Services if he or she needs classroom materials other than texts, such as handouts or readings on Blackboard or ERes, converted into an alternate format.

If there are any questions, please contact Mary Borman at the Office of Disability Services at 882-4696 or 882-2078 or by email at bormanm@missouri.edu.
