Testing
Academic testing accommodations may include time extensions, quiet rooms, scribes, readers and/or adaptive equipment. Accommodations are provided so that faculty can evaluate the performance of students with disabilities, by the same standards as the rest of the class. Students are responsible for contacting each instructor and the Disability Services Office to make specific arrangements for tests.
Test Security/Testers/Training
The Disability Services Office works with instructors to make appropriate test accommodations. The Office recognizes that academic examinations have been carefully developed by MU faculty. As participants in the testing process office personnel respect instructors' concerns for test security and make every effort to ensure that academic integrity is maintained at all times.
The Office of Disability Services selects and trains individuals, usually students, to become proctors. They attend a workshop discussing their roles in reading, writing, and/or proctoring exams. This allows the proctors to fulfill their role without providing academic assistance to students with disabilities. Proctors are trained on the subjects of test security, academic honesty and ethical conduct.
Time Extensions
Arrangements can be made for students registered with the Office of Disability Services to have extended time for quizzes and exams. Students are expected to inform their instructors of such a need at the beginning of each semester. If an instructor is unable to provide the accommodations, there are four individual, distraction-reduced testing rooms located in the Office of Disability Services that may be utilized.
To use one of these testing rooms, students must fill out and turn in an Adaptive Examination Request form to the Office of Disability Services seven (7) business days prior to the date of each exam. For final week Adaptive Examination Request forms must be turned in by Thanksgiving Break of the fall semester and Spring Break of the winter semester.
