AD/HD: Myth vs Fact

Myth: AD/HD is a "Phantom Disorder"

Fact: While this stance is popular with the media, neurologists have consistently shown chemical differences in the brain between AD/HD and non-AD/HD patiends

Myth: No study has ever demonstrated that taking stimulant medications can cause any lasting behavioral or educational benefits to AD/HD Patients

Fact: Fifty years of research has shown that properly monitored use of stimulant medication is not only beneficial to AD/HD patients but that it is the only method of treatment scientifcally proven to be helpful.

Myth: It is not possible to accurately diagnose AD/HD

Fact: There is no single medical test for diagnosing AD/HD, however, clear-cut clinical diagnostic criteria have been developed and researched over the past few decades

Myth: AD/HD is outgrown by the time the patient becomes an adult

Fact: Long-term clinical studies have shown that up to 50% of children diagnosed with AD/HD still manifest the full clinical syndrome in adulthood.
